Luke Allen Obituary

Mr. Luke Allen, age 43, a longtime resident of Newton County passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022.  He was born August 4, 1978 in Covington to Wayne and Gayle Pittard Allen.  Luke grew up in Lyman, South Carolina and Covington, Georgia and graduated from Newton High School.  Following high school in1996 he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.  He was assigned to the Great Falls Dodgers for the 1997 season.  He played Single A with the San Bernadino Stampede, then was promoted to Double A where he played until 2000 with the San Antonio Missions.  He started 2001 with the Jacksonville Suns and then moved up to Triple A. 

Luke had his Major League Baseball debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2002.  He was traded to the Colorado Rockies in 2003 and played Triple A ball for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.  Over his years playing baseball he was affiliated with the Pittsburg Pirates, the Anaheim Angels, the San Diego Padres, and the Boston Red Sox.  Luke loved the sport of baseball and truly lived out his dreams.  His passion for the sport will be carried on not only by his family but by the countless number of young ball players that he coached and trained over the years.  Outside of baseball he enjoyed golf, fishing, and spending time with his friends and family.  Luke was preceded in death by his father Wayne Allen, Sr. and his brother Wayne Allen, Jr.

Luke is survived by his children Logan Allen, Gabe Allen, and Brooklyn Allen; his mother Gayle Allen of Covington; his brothers Sam Allen (Staci) of Monroe, and Randy Allen (Allison) of Social Circle; his sisters Jessi Fain (Brian) of Covington, and Kaci Marks (BJ) also of Covington; his fiancé Danielle Elmore of Social Circle, and her children Cole and Chloe Barker; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and close friends.

Graveside services for Luke will be held at 11 o’clock Thursday, May 5, 2002 at Starrsville United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Michael Stephens and Reverend Joe Ezzard officiating.  The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
