Marcia Lynn Carnes Obituary

Marcia Lynn Clower Carnes of Covington passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025. She was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia on September 7, 1943, to the late Dan and Montine Clower. Lynn was a career educator and retired from teaching in 1999. Her entire career was in Elementary Education in Sandy Springs, Sandersville, Conyers and finally at Ficquett Elementary in Covington, Ga. She was loved by her students and met them often in the community with joy, love and sharing of times together.

Lynn was a graduate of Newton County High School, class of 1961 and West Georgia College. She was a member of Covington First Methodist Church and at present a proud member of Wesley Methodist Church of Covington. She was a member of several bridge clubs and Alpha Delta Kappa sorority. She especially enjoyed the fellowship of these clubs and other groups in the community. Lynn and her husband, Derrell enjoyed traveling together and for many years owning a beach home in Panama City Beach, Florida. Lynn's love and focus has always been her family and friends. One highlight has always been the Georgia Bulldogs that she followed unfailingly. The Georgia campus was a wonderful meeting place for family and friends before each game. Being with her husband, son and daughter-in-law, grandchildren, cousins and family as they supported the "Dawgs" was a highlight of her life.

Lynn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Derrell Ronald Carnes, son Derrell Ronald Carnes, Jr. (Rod) Carnes and daughter-in-law, Wendi Carnes, grandsons, Califf Carnes (Ashley), Colin Carnes, Caden Carnes, great-grandchildren Landon and Hadley Carnes, and niece Sarah Jenkins and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Montine McCart and Daniel Morris Clower and her brother, Daniel Carl Clower.
