Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Dial Chambers, age 89, a lifelong resident of Newton County passed away Friday, July 3, 2020. She was born March 30, 1931 in Dial Town to Starr and Eva Sockwell Dial who have preceded her in death. Mrs. Chambers was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and friend. She worked several jobs throughout her life; she worked at Ace Hardware warehouse, the Firestone Store, she ran a paper route for the Covington News, she worked in the cafeterias of Ficquett Elementary, Porterdale Elementary, and Indian Creek Middle School, Squeelers Bar-B-Que, and Kid’s Haven Daycare. Mrs. Chambers loved flowers, going out to eat, and cherished the time she spent with her family. She was Baptist by faith and a longtime member of Canaan Baptist Church, where she led the children’s choir for many years. Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her husband Lanier Chambers, and her son Andy Chambers. She is survived by her children Gary “Garpy” Chambers of Covington, and Gail and Dennis Smith of Covington, her daughter-in-law Cathy Chambers of Covington, she is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren along with her sister Mamie Nell Garner, and Bertha Cason, her brother Clayton “Skeet” Dial all of Oxford, her caregivers Tracy Harn and Kolten and a host of other family and close friends.
Due to the Covid 19/Coronavirus Pandemic, the family regrets that the funeral services must be private. They appreciate your thoughts, kind words, and prayers during this difficult time.
