Master Sgt. Christopher Duke, age 40, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany on September 16, 1982 to Ernest and Kimberly Duke. He grew up in Waipahu, Hawaii and was a graduate of Waipahu High School. After high school Master Sgt. Duke went on to graduate from Norwich University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis, and then a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from New England College. He retired after serving in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years. Master Sgt. Duke earned a Navy Achievement Medal with serving in Iraq. He also was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device. Master Sgt. Duke graduated from formal schools of Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape (SERE), Basic Airborne Course, Special Operations Terminal Attack Controller Course, Achilles Dagger, SNCO Career Course, and SNCO Advance Course. While working as a recruiter from 2015 to 2018 he earned the SNCOIC MARSOC Recruiter of the Year Awards in both 2015 and 2016, along with a Navy Achievement Medal for his efforts. Master Sgt. Duke loved education and was working on his doctorate degree. He was a loving husband and father who cherished spending time with his family. He was also an avid Atlanta sports fan; he enjoyed watching the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Braves.
Master Sgt. Duke is survived by his wife Cara Duke of Covington and their two sons Chris Duke of California and Caleb Duke of Covington, his parents Ernest Duke, Jr. and Kimberly Duke, his brother Curtis Duke of Las Vegas, Nevada and his sister Chantoya Jenkins of LaGrange, along with numerous other family members and many close friends.
Graveside services for Master Sgt. Duke will be held at 1 o’clock Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA 30114. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at J.C. Harwell Funeral Home 2157 East Street SE Covington, GA 30014.
