Mattie C. (Chapman) Cook

Mrs. Mattie C. Cook, age 99, of Covington, formerly of Conyers passed away Friday, June 21, 2024.  She was born January 11, 1925 in Newborn to Henry and Pearl Chapman who have preceded her in death. Mrs. Cook grew up in Newborn and graduated from Newborn School as the Valedictorian of her class of five.  She retired from Lithonia Lighting where she worked for 25 years.  Mrs. Cook enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening, and working with flowers.  She was Methodist by faith and a longtime member of Shiloh Methodist Church in Almon.  Along with her parents Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her 12 siblings and her husband Dewey Cook.

Mrs. Cook is survived by her daughters Susan Hightower (Alan Davis) of Conyers and Donna Harrelson of Social Circle; her grandchildren Phillip Hightower (Sharon), Amanda Harrelson, and Rachel Boone (Dustin); her great grandchildren Abigail, Aaron, Lizzy, Andrew, Catherine, Logan, Sarah, and David; her son-in-law Ray Hightower (Maureen); along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many close friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Shiloh Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Wadley and Reverend Ron Capes officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service of Wednesday.
