Melissa "Missy" Dodd Obituary

Melissa Dawn Trent Dodd passed away on May 22, 2026, at the age of 59. She was born on March 17, 1967, in Charleston, West Virginia, and lived a life marked by kindness, faith, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew her.

Missy was a woman who made others feel welcome, valued, and understood. She had a gift for crafting beautiful things with her hands, and she was known as the best thrift shopper, always able to find something special where others might have overlooked it. Her creativity and eye for detail reflected the care she brought into every part of her life. She loved deeply and wholeheartedly, especially her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, who brought her immense joy and pride.

Her heart for others was one of her most defining qualities. Missy was the person people could turn to in times of joy, sorrow, confusion, or need. Anyone could go to her for anything, and she never turned people away. If someone needed to pour their heart out, they could count on her to listen with compassion and without judgment. She gave wise and thoughtful advice, and her words often brought comfort, clarity, and peace to those who needed it most. Her presence was steady, warm, and reassuring, and she had a way of making others feel cared for simply by being near her.

Missy also shared her faith in meaningful ways through her service at Gateway Community Church, where she taught Bible Study. She approached that role with sincerity and devotion, offering encouragement and insight to those around her. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she lived it through her actions, her compassion, and her commitment to helping others. She was a source of strength to many and a shining example of grace in everyday life.

She is survived by her spouse of 16 years, Tony Dodd; her mother, Linda Trent-Boyd; her siblings, Melody Trent Sanders, Janice Middlebrooks, Derek Boyd, and Mickey Boyd; and her brother-in-law, Michael Middlebrooks. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, Christina Romero, Peyton Middlebrooks, Pierce Middlebrooks, Christopher Middlebrooks, Drake MacTavish, Zane Sanders, Miranda Romero, and Amelia Messick, as well as great nieces and nephews, Hunter Gage MacTavish, Prudence Jocelyn Denise Sanders, Elijah McKenzi Boyd, Christopher Romero, Matthew Messick, and Alexander Messick. Her family was a treasured part of her life, and she cherished the time, memories, and bonds they shared.

She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Franklin Trent, Jr.; her nephew, Gage MacTavish; and her niece, McKenzi Middlebrooks. Their memories remained close to her heart, and she carried her love for them throughout her life.
