Mr. Melvin Christopher Scarborough passed away on May 28, 2026, at the age of 63, leaving behind a life marked by devotion, warmth, humor, and a deep love for the people and animals who shared his journey.
Chris was born on October 21, 1962, in Covington, Georgia, and he carried the spirit of his hometown with him throughout his life. He was a man who appreciated the simple joys of living well, loving fully, and treating others with kindness and sincerity. Those who knew him will remember a steady presence, a generous heart, and a personality that could brighten a room with ease.
He found great enjoyment in the outdoors, especially in hunting, and he took pride in the traditions and memories that came with it. He also loved deer meat and food in general, and he was known for having a true appreciation for a good meal. His food was always seasoned and peppered just right.
Chris also loved dogs dearly and adored the companionship they offered. Among his most cherished companions was Precious, his sweet Pit Bull and his best friend and most favorite companion. Their bond was a reflection of the deep affection he had for animals and the comfort he found in loyal friendship. Precious was a constant source of happiness in his life, and that devotion was returned in full.
He spent many years enjoying his life as a Flea Market Peddler, a role that suited his personality and allowed him to connect with others in a way that was uniquely his own. Through his company, C&M Fine Gifts, he built relationships and shared his work with pride. His efforts reflected his determination, his independence, and his ability to make a living while staying true to himself. He approached his work with a practical spirit and a personal touch that many will remember fondly.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Pat Scarborough, and by his son, Christopher Adam Scarborough. Their memory remained an important part of his life, and he carried their love with him always.
He is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Mary “Lucy” Scarborough, who shared in his life with love and devotion. He also leaves behind his children, Erica Scarborough and her significant other, Jordan “Tan Man” Barrett, Bradley Holmes, Thomas Becknell and Elizabeth Becknell. His grandchildren, Lily Scarborough, Tahlia Becknell, Sheyanne Tuggle, and Jaycee Clowers, brought joy and pride to his life, and he treasured the special place each of them held in his heart. He is also survived by his siblings, Cindy Scarborough, Connie Thompson, Gwen Leachman, and Dawn Goodman, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him with affection.
A Funeral Service will be at 12 o’clock on Monday, June 1, 2026 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Allen officiating. Interment will be at Liberty Cemetery located in Porterdale, Georgia. The family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00am until 12:00pm at the funeral prior to the service. J.C.
