Michael "Butch" Steffan passed away on May 11, 2025, at the age of 82. He was born on June 8, 1942, in Joliet, Montana.
The son of the late Rose and Michael Steffan, Sr., Mike was preceded in death by his siblings, Wally, Jim, Leona, Monte, Bruce, Alice "Dolly", Donnie, and Gloria. His early years in Montana were filled with the simple joys of family, working on the farm and tinkering with cars. He attended Belfry High School, where he graduated as a proud Belfry Bat. He went on to attend Hanson’s Mechanical Trade School in Fargo, North Dakota.
Mike's professional journey was marked by his 31-year tenure at General Services Administration (GSA). He started as a mechanic in Helena, Montana then later retired in Denver, Colorado as a fleet manager, where his dedication and work ethic were as steadfast as his loyalty to his colleagues and the organization. His career was more than a job; it was a testament to his commitment to service and excellence.
Beyond his work, Mike's passions painted a vivid picture of a man who embraced life with vigor and enthusiasm. His love for fast cars was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his zest for life. Mike's moments on the drag racetrack were as thrilling to him as they were to those who watched him race. His interest in cars changed to a different type of horsepower as he supported his daughter in her love of horses. His dedication to his favorite team, the Denver Broncos, was unwavering, and he cherished the memory of attending Super Bowl 50, where he witnessed the Broncos' triumphant victory. Mike, as well as all of his brothers, were lifetime Elks Club Members.
Mike's ingenuity was legendary. There wasn't a thing he couldn't build or fix, a testament to his crafty hands and inventive mind. Many will remember the cornhole boards he built, not just as a testament to his skill but as symbols of the joy and camaraderie he fostered at gatherings.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Audrey Steffan, who was his rock and partner in every adventure. Together, they created a lifetime of memories and a loving home for their daughter, Shauna Steffan, who inherited her father's strength and spirit. Mike also leaves behind his sisters, Carol and Penny, many nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly.
Mike's life was a tapestry of love, commitment, and adventure. From the mountains of Montana and Colorado to the roar of fast cars, he lived every moment fully and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy is one of perseverance, joy, and the power of a life well-lived.
