Homer Grier Holifield, Jr. passed away on January 7, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born November 6, 1942, in Porterdale, Georgia to Homer Grier Holifield, Sr. and Eleanor Avery Holifield, who have preceded him in death. His two sisters Margaret Autry and Nancy Autry have also preceded him in death.

Grier was a 1960 Newton County High School graduate and attended Emory at Oxford College transferring to University of Georgia where he majored in Animal Science. He proudly served with the U.S. Army Reserves from 1964 to 1970.

Raised on a farm, Grier learned the value of hard work and continued this work ethic when he joined his dad and grandad in the meat business. The business continues today as Holifield Farms Sausage Company with his children and several grandchildren taking the reigns. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and observing all things nature including bird watching, trees and daffodils.

Survivors include his loving wife Nancy, sons Grier III (Shelly), Booker (Jennifer), daughter Lucy Henderson (Sammy), grandchildren: Savannah Leinweber (Daniel), Piper Richardson (Matthew), Makennah Sellers (Blake), Shelby Holifield, Kirkley Holifield, Booker Thomas Holifield (Naomi), Bonny Holifield (Jake), Quigg Holifield, Ava Holifield, great grandchildren: Dawson, Marybeth, Ellie and Sadie Leinweber, Archer and Elliott Richardson, Wonderly Sellers, Denim Sailor, along with several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Grier will be at 11 o’clock on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home with Darrell Huckaby and Doug Doster officiating. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the funeral home.
