Mr. Ray Brooks

Mr. Ray Brooks, age 89, of Monroe, formerly of Dekalb County passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024.  He was born in Thomaston, Georgia on December 21, 1934 to Homer and Rosa Lee Brooks who have preceded him in death.  Mr. Brooks grew up in Scottdale and attended Clarkston High School.  He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. 

Mr. Brooks was a hard-working man and a great provider for his family working as a skilled carpenter owning his own business for many years.  He was a member of Glen Haven Baptist Church both in Decatur and McDonough.  Mr. Brooks enjoyed playing checkers, fishing, going to the lake, spending time with his family, and he also coached his sons at baseball.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Inez Brooks, his brothers Raymond Brooks, and Don Brooks; his sisters Rita Williamson, and Rhonda Allison. 

Mr. Brooks is survived by his children Ricky Brooks (Lisa) of Monroe, Tony Brooks (Amy) of Jersey, Kathy Walker (Chris) of Monroe, Sam Brooks (Renee) of Covington, Stephen Brooks (Lisa) of Statesboro, and Shelia Callahan of Cumming; his 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren also survive him; along with his siblings Martha Ewing, Ione Egan, Rebecca Owenby, and David Brooks; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many close friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Brooks will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Stan Barrong officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Glen Haven Baptist Church, 345 East Lake Road, McDonough, GA  30252 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
