Mrs. Myra Summers, age 91, of Oxford passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on August 29, 1933 to John and Lillie Pearson who have preceded her in death. Mrs. Summers grew up in Alabama and Miami, Florida. She worked as a school bus driver in Newton County and also worked at the Newton County Superior Court Clerks Office for a number of years. Myra enjoyed life, her kids, and her beloved cats Charlie and Willy, and Molly her 25+ year old Cockatiel. Late in life she discovered painting and enjoyed it immensely. One of her most favorite pastimes was going for a ride in her daughters Mustang, she would tell her daughter “Rev it up Jeaneen”. She was one of 10 children most of which have preceded her in death, along with her siblings and her parents she was also predeceased by her daughter Deborah Butler.
Mrs. Summers is survived by her daughter Jeaneen Rider (Bennie “Cricket”) of Oxford; her son Clint Summers (Tammy) of Knoxville, Tennessee; her grandchildren Jamie Hall of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Nick Rider (Brittany) of Versailles, Kentucky, and Mandy Hannah (Chris) of Yarmouth, Maine; her great-grandchildren Liam, Rowan, Cora, and Anson; along with her sister Lillian Woodman of Orlando, Florida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews along with a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Summers will be at 10:00am on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with C.H. Emmitt officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:00am until 10:00am prior to the service on Monday.
