Obituary was lovingly provided by the family.
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Norma “Nini” Kent Allgood, 76, passed away in Jacksonville, Florida on July 20, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Full of love, laughter and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her.
Norma was born in LaGrange, Georgia on January 25, 1948 to Elliott Ervin Kent and Colie Estelle (Yates) Kent. She grew up in LaGrange, graduating from LaGrange High School in 1966. Following high school, she received her Associates Degree from LaGrange College and worked for Delta Airlines in their administrative offices.
Norma married Wiley A. Allgood, Jr., the love of her life, in 1970 and lived in Oxford, Georgia for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She was active in the Newton County Hospital Auxiliary, a longtime member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, and Orange Park United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included tennis where she achieved an AA ranking. After retiring from tennis, golf became her sports passion where she excelled for many years on her community golf club team. Norma was a talented musician, playing both the piano and organ and singing in church and community choirs. Norma’s favorite vacation was cruising with her husband. She and Wiley took over 30 cruises with the Eastern Caribbean being their favorite destination.
She and her late husband, Wiley, moved full-time to Florida after his retirement in 1995 and lived in Beacon Hill. Many fun years were spent on the beaches in Beacon Hill and Mexico Beach with family and friends. Norma and Wiley moved to Green Cove Springs to be closer to family, and finally to Cypress Village in Jacksonville.
Norma’s life was filled with love and caregiving for her family. She was the best confidant, friend, and mother that anyone could ever have. She was a very accomplished and gracious hostess and many parties were held at the farm in Oxford including bridge clubs, United Methodist Women Circles, family reunions, Lion’s Club parties, friend’s luncheons and showers, and even a wedding reception. Norma hosted family dinners for every holiday and enjoyed those special occasions when family and friends would drop by to say hello. Besides her love of family, Norma had a great love for dogs, especially Koko and Bo, her beloved Dobermans.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley A. Allgood, Jr. She is survived by children Wiley Virgil (Heidi) Allgood, Heidi (Chris) Stoneking, Holly (Eric) Ellis and Michael (Kim) Allgood. She has nine grandchildren, Elizabeth (Daniel) Parker, Emma Stoneking, Hannah (Tim) Boock, Abigail (Gabriel) Coalson, Madison (Joseph) Cain, Sarah Stoneking, Wiley David Allgood, Benjamin Allgood, and Bryce Allgood.
