This obituary was lovingly prepared by the family of Peggy Adams Fett. She passed away peacefully at home in Atlanta with her family. Peggy was 103 years old, an amazing woman: wife, mother, office assistant, stewardess, gardener, flower arranger, and surrogate mother for anyone who needed one. She lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the post-war boom, the turbulent times,Y2K, and the Pandemic. Peggy was born at the family home in Social Circle, Ga surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. After her mother died on Peggy’s 10th birthday, she and 3 of her siblings lived with their grandfather (George Claud Adams) and grandmother (Lillie Green Adams) for 2 years before moving to Atlanta when their father remarried (Hattie Johnson). Peggy graduated from North Druid Hills High School in 1938. She was a certified volunteer at “Service Man” centers during World War II and worked for eminent Atlanta eye Specialist Dr. Grady Clay before fulfilling her dream of becoming a stewardess for Delta Air Lines in 1947. Her career as a stewardess ended when she married the love of her life, Fred G. Fett, Jr. Together, they raised three children, two girls and a boy. They traveled for business and pleasure all over the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Peggy’s association with Delta Air Lines was reestablished when she became a member of the newly formed Delta Clipped Wings (DCW), an organization for retired stewardesses (now, flight attendants) and served as its President in the 1968-1969 year. Her connection with DCW continued until the end of her life supported by the friendship of her fellow members. The last event she attended was a Past President’s luncheon in July 2024. Peggy went back to work in 1975 Centers for Disease Control at the age of 55 when her children were grown. She retired just before her 75th birthday after 20 years at the CDC. After retirement she began taking arthritis exercise classes first at her church and then at the Senior Center stopping only when the center closed during the Pandemic. She took a flower arranging class at age
95 and gave her arrangements to family, friends, and senior citizen homes while forging a lasting friendship with her instructor Mary. After a neck injury in a car accident in 2018, she began Physical Therapy at age 97 and quickly endeared herself to Mae, Kayla, and Marcus. She was the star patient they and other therapists singled out to any younger patient as a challenge with “she’s [age] if she can do it, you can do it.” Her last PT session was less than 2 weeks before her death. Her hospice team was immediately adopted into her extended family.
She was preceded by her parents John Green Adams and Alma Jones Adams, her husband of 45 years Fred G. Fett, Jr., son Fred (Skip) Fett III, and her four siblings: Joan Sheldon, Harry Adams, Hulon Adams, and John G. Adams, Jr She is survived by daughters Janice Fett and Beverly Fett, nieces and nephews Ted Sheldon (Linda), Joe Sheldon (Kay), Dave Sheldon (Sue), Melanie Adams (Stan), Bonnie Raubfogel (Rick), Gary Adams (Peggy), and Rick Adams, and 9 grand-nieces and nephews, and 7 great-grand-nieces and nephews.
