Phillis E. (Robinson) Shumate

Mrs. Phillis E. Shumate, age 73, of Social Circle passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022. She was born in Atlanta on May 5, 1949 to J.T. and Velma Hicks Robinson. She grew up in Decatur and graduated from Towers High School.  Mrs. Shumate worked for Dekalb County Board of Education for 30 years and was a member of Stewart Community Church.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed word search, and loved watching her grandchildren play sports.  She enjoyed bird watching, and loved her dog “Camo”.  Mrs. Shumate was preceded in death by her father J.T. Robinson, and her daughter Kelley Shumate.

She is survived by her husband Tony Shumate; her mother Velma Ducra of Lawrenceville; her daughter and son-in-law Kim and Bobby Fincher of Social Circle; her grandchildren Kacie Fincher, McKenzie Fincher, and Colton Fincher; her brothers Richard Robinson and his wife Jill, and Phil Robinson and his wife Cindy; she is also survived by 1 nephew and 2 nieces along with other family members and close friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday, November 28, 2022 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park with Kacie Fincher, McKenzie Fincher, Colton Fincher, Mike Leftwich, Chris Leftwich and Tim Tallant serving as pallbearers.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.  J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
