Rachel Ann (Anderson) Jones Obituary

Rachel Ann Jones passed away peacefully from natural causes on May 20, 2026, in her home in Greensboro, GA at the age of 82 surrounded by her loved ones.  She was a Jill of all trades, a true Renaissance woman, and feisty in spirit.  Her sharp-witted nature often brought smiles to those around her.

She was born on August 26,1943, to Delores and William Anderson in Sycamore, IL and grew up in Fargo, ND.   She was the middle child with an older brother, Gary, and younger sister, Lori (Whisman).  Multitasking and managing kids came naturally to her.  As she told it, when a mere teenager, she earned less than $1 per day to take care of five rambunctious children in addition to cooking their dinner and doing housework.  Retrospectively, she realized that she was underpaid for this job.

After graduating from Fargo High School and attending Morehead State college, she married, Clark Jones, at the US Naval Academy in the summer of 1964.  Although she wasn’t officially in the military, she served her country by being a naval pilot’s spouse.  She was a devoted and loving wife who began her motherhood journey in 1967. Clark and Rachel raised two daughters, Julie (Waggoner) and Terri (Bhutwala).  She was a supportive team mother of multiple athletic teams.  Rachel had a knack for teaching her kids to learn skills which she didn’t master herself such as waterskiing.

She was an avid gardener, an accomplished seamstress with award-winning handmade Halloween costumes, a competitive singles tennis player, and a gourmet club host and cook.

The Jones family moved to Greensboro GA, and Clark retired in 2001.  In her new forever home, Rachel replaced her tennis racquet with golf clubs.  Known for being a great putter, she didn’t need that particular skill when she achieved three holes-in-one. She and her husband won several couples golf tournaments often winning and bringing home “the country ham”. She was also an accomplished fisherman who didn’t need to embellish on the size of her catch.

More recently, she frequently shopped at Walmart and befriended other customers with her welcoming smile and charm.  The employees knew her well, being that Walmart was her sanctuary where she found community.  She mastered driving the electric scooters and if she ran into, ran over, or knocked down anything she would say, “Oh well, they made the aisle too narrow”.

In addition, she was a doting grandmother of three granddaughters, Debra McNeill, Jena Clark, and Maya Bhutwala.  She remains their protector and advocate.  Being the family matriarch came naturally, and her impression will be lasting and enduring.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents Delores and William Anderson, her brother Gary Anderson, and her son-in-law Rich Waggoner.

Rachel’s memory will be cherished by her husband, Clark Jones of Greensboro, GA, sister Lori Whisman (Sonny) of Fargo, ND,  daughters - Julie Waggoner of Clearwater, FL and Terri Bhutwala (Tiku) of Chattanooga, TN, granddaughters - Debra McNeill (Chris Law) of Atlanta, GA, Jena Clark (Tellus) of Greensboro, GA and Maya Bhutwala of Chattanooga, TN.  She will also be remembered by nieces and nephews, as well as a host of close friends whom she treated as family.

Rachel’s family is forever grateful to Dr. Pamela Hall and her team, especially Luann and Roger in Madison, GA for over 30 years of dedicated care, thoughtful guidance, and friendship.

A memorial service for Mrs. Jones will be held at  1 o’clock June 6, 2026, at Walker United Methodist Church, 2370 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642.  The family will gather with friends beginning at 12 :30PM prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to either the local safe shelter Circle of Love Center Inc of Greensboro, GA (colinc.org) or Walker United Methodist Church of Greensboro, GA (walkerchurch.com), in honor of Rachel Ann Jones.
