Ray Walker Hewell

Ray Walker Hewell, age 71, of Covington passed away June 22, 2024 from his battle with IPF.  He was born November 1, 1952 and grew up in Porterdale.  Ray was a 1970 graduate of Newton County High School.  He was a pressman at the Covington News, THP, and Burman Printing just to name a few.

Ray enjoyed spending time with his children/grandchildren, family, and friends.  His favorite pastime was playing golf and watching Georgia Football, but he loved all sports and over the years played many of them including playing for Coach Ron Bradley and B.C. Crowell.  He really loved his call to fame “making homemade Ice Cream” and being called BIG PLAY.

He leaves behind his wife Marilyn, his sons Denny Hewell of Covington, Timothy Hewell of Covington, his daughter Olivia Grindle (Eddie) of Covington, his grandsons: Connor Hewell (Jordan), Timothy Hewell Jr, Tristan Hewell, and Tanner Hewell; his great granddaughter Billie Hewell; his siblings Laverne Davenport, Sue and Gary Digby, Corri and Sandra Hewell along with several nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.  Ray was preceded in death by his parents William and Martha (Tootsie) Knight Hewell and his grandson Jacob (Jake) Hewell.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 o’clock Friday, June 28, 2024 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Pastor Trey Bailey officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Health Well Foundation, 20440 Century Blvd., Suite 250, Germantown, MD 20874 or a charity of your choice.
