Reverend Sanford McDonald Obituary

Rev. Joseph Sanford McDonald, age 94, of Covington passed away Monday, January 4, 2021.  He was born June 26, 1926 in Pendergrass, Georgia to A.D. and Annie Mae McDonald who have preceded him in death.  Mr. McDonald grew up in Pendergrass, graduated from Martin Institute in Jefferson, Georgia, and from Rhinehart College and the University of Georgia.  He served in the United States Army during World War II.  Sanford went to the Candler School of Theology at Emory University and served as a Pastor for 52 years.  He was an avid reader and writer publishing “Our Story”, the story of his and Sara’s life together.  Reverend McDonald was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Sara DeFreese McDonald, his second wife Louise Bassett McDonald, his daughters Brenda McDonald Jones and Donna McDonald Henderson, and his son Joseph Sanford “Sandy” McDonald, his siblings Harold McDonald, Lewis McDonald, Martha McDonald Allen, Mary Louise McDonald, and Jane McDonald Caswell.  He is survived by his grandchildren Kristin Henderson, Sara Jones and Zach Croley, his great grandchild Kamille Tuff, his daughter-in-law Margaret Williams McDonald, his sons-in-law Don Henderson and Calvin Jones along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and close friends.

Due to the COVID 19/Coronavirus Pandemic all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requirements will be followed.  There is a limit of 50 people at any large gathering, social distancing must be recognized, the use of mask is required, and most importantly if you feel sick or have any symptoms of COVID 19 you will not be allowed to attend the service.  Please be respectful of the family during this difficult time and follow the requirements of the CDC.
