Richard "Richie" Wilton Jr. Obituary

This obituary was lovingly prepared by the family

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Richard H. Wilton, Jr., age 63, of Covington, Georgia, passed away on November 17, 2024. Richie was a man whose laughter filled the hearts of everyone around him and whose generosity and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.

Richie was a man of remarkable character. He worked for Atlas Copco for 30 years, receiving many awards throughout his career; he even created a tool that was subsequently named after him. Whether he was fixing a broken engine, tinkering with a motorcycle, or lending a hand to someone in need, Richie was always there. His laugh, one of the most memorable and genuine sounds you could ever hear, was a reflection of the joy he found in the simple things in life. Richie had a passion for motorcycles and the open road, always ready for his next ride. Lovingly referred to as “MacGyver”, he lived by the motto, “figure it out”. His heart was as big as his laugh, and he never hesitated to lend a hand. An animal lover at his core, Richie had a soft spot for creatures of all kinds, with the exception of his famous foe, the armadillo. His kindness was felt by everyone who crossed his path, and his presence will be forever missed by friends, family, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty that will never be forgotten. His selflessness and compassion were felt by family, friends, and even strangers, making the world a little brighter just by being in it.

Richie is lovingly survived by his wife of 31 years, Pat Wilton; his children, Chrisanne Wilton Rancati, Doug Rancati and his wife, Becky, and granddaughter Mya Stuman; his sister Cheryl Kapocsi and her husband Steve, sister Karen Peters and her husband Bob, his twin sister Robin Benson and her husband Jim, brother Gary Wilton and his wife Mary Ellen as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends who had become family.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 22 beginning at 6:30pm at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home where his loved ones will gather to share stories, laughter, and remember the good times in honor of the man who made such a profound impact on so many lives. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00pm until 6:30pm at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to your local animal shelter, a cause that was close to Richie’s heart.

Rest in peace, our gentle giant. Your laughter, your kindness, and your unconditional love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know you.
