This obituary was lovingly written by the family…
Rosa (Omie) Allen left us peacefully Friday, May 17, surrounded by her beloved family, at the age of 96. In her 96 years, Rosa, enriched the lives of everyone she met. She was born in Ingolstadt, Germany 3/23/28. The 8th child of Dominikus and Theresia. She grew up playing hand ball, skiing, ice skating, and swimming in the Danube. After finishing school she attended business classes and worked as a private detective. She was a young woman during war times but caught the eye of an American service man, Louis Allen, who became the love of her life. They were married in Germany and returned to America where Rosa could not speak the language but learned by reading American Newspapers and watching television. Rosa and Louis lived on multiple bases in Kentucky, Georgia, and Alaska. They had three daughters, Violanda, Shirley, and Charlene.
When Rosie was widowed suddenly at the age of 40, she became the sole provider for three daughters and worked at Bell South to provide. She worked for Bell South for 25 years, retiring in 1993. She began her career hand drawing and drafting detailed plans and by retirement had adapted to CAD. Her work was always requested by her engineers because of her intense attention to detail.
Rosie was a devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the constant, steady rock that centered all around her. She was sharp minded, sharp tongued, and opinionated but always had an intense devotion to her family and friends. She crocheted hundreds of baby blankets, spent hours on word searches, and loved to watch the neighborhood from her chair in her Florida room. She appreciated a good cup of coffee and conversation with her “German Ladies”. She knew that most of her grandchildren’s and great- grand children’s ills could be cured by a grisbriley, a pancake with powdered sugar, or a trip to McDonalds playground and a happy meal.
Her amazing life was too full to sum up in only a few paragraphs. She was quite a woman that defied all conventions and lived her life by her own rules and no one else’s. She is survived by: her daughter’s Violanda (Jim) Doss, and Charlene Phillips; her grandson Joe (Dianna) Doss, her granddaughters Tonya (Matt) Roach, and Tiffany Brown (Blake); her great grandchildren McKayla Doss, Katie Doss, Aspen Roach, Gavin Roach, Corbin Roach, Kaydence Brown, Brodi Brown, and Kohen Brown.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Mr. Paul Daniel officiating. Inurnment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service.
