Rose Powell Obituary

Mrs. Rose Mary Powell, age 75, of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020. She was born April 23, 1945 in Porterdale, Georgia to James Emory and Lois Ellen Curtis Laster who have preceded her in death.

Over the years Rose Mary talked about her fond memories of the fun times she had growing up in Porterdale. She had many friends there. One of her fondest memories was playing basketball with her many great friends there. She was preceded in death by some of her teammates so it would not surprise us if they were shooting a few baskets in heaven right now.

Rose Mary spent most of her adult life in the Arlington, Texas area where she worked in the Real Estate industry closing home loans. She made hundreds of friends in this business, and was well liked and respected.

She truly loved her family, friends, and her one ornery little yellow cat, “Little Bird.” We still don’t know why she loved that cat so much.

Rose Mary loved southern cooking. She loved grits, collard greens, all kinds of squash, turnips and fried catfish. She even taught her husband to love grits and scrambled eggs. You can take the girl out of Georgia, but you can’t take Georgia out of the girl!

To her husband she was a wife and best friend. He will forever be lost without her.

Rose Mary is survived by her husband, Larry Powell; her daughter, Felicia Alex and her husband, David; her son, James “Chris” Farr and wife, Mercedes; her sister, Pamelia Kenney; her grandchildren, Samantha, Jacqueline, Bradley, Victoria, James, and John Paul; her great grandchildren, Daisy, Robert, and Wyatt.  She is also survived by her step daughter, Terri Powell; her step son, Michael Powell; her step grandchildren, Delaney, Taylor, Josh, Shanna, and Jessi and her step great grandchildren, Emma and Charlotte.
