Roy Miller Obituary

This obituary was lovingly prepared by the family

Roy Nathaniel Miller of Covington, Georgia, was born on May 3, 1937, in Ellijay, Georgia. From a young age, he demonstrated the determination and entrepreneurial spirit that would define his life.

As a student at Gilmer County High School and an active member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), Roy earned statewide recognition by winning Georgia’s Best Pasture award. This achievement took him to Chicago, where he was honored and had the opportunity to meet President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

He graduated from Berry College in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Berry College remained close to his heart throughout his life. Roy later served on the Board of Visitors, actively supported the college’s entrepreneurship programs, mentored students, and was honored with the Alumni Entrepreneurial Spirit Award in 2007.

In 1965, Roy founded Southern Used Packaging & Bottling Machinery, Inc. What began as a bold vision grew into a thriving and respected international business serving companies such as Coca-Cola, General Mills, Pillsbury, and Procter & Gamble. Through innovation, integrity, and hard work, Roy built more than a successful company — he built lasting relationships and created opportunities for others.

He was deeply involved in his community, serving as President of the Duluth Rotary Club and holding leadership roles in Gwinnett County civic organizations.

Above all, Roy was devoted to his family. He is survived by his sister, Frances Milam, and sister-in-law Betty Miller; his daughters, Melanie Miller (Rich Giddens), Lisa Miller (Mike Dauphin), and Ginger Blair (Byron); and his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Blooma Gay Miller and Berry Miller; his brothers, Paul (Margie) and Frank Miller; and his brother-in-law, Chuck Milam.

Roy will be remembered for his vision, generosity, leadership, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the example he set.

A memorial service will be held at Frost Chapel, Berry College, on Friday, February 27 at 12:00 PM.
