Samuel Richard Fortin

Mr. Samuel Richard Fortin, age 78, of Rutledge, Georgia passed away September 25, 2024. He was born on March 31, 1946 to Adele and Joseph R. Fortin who have preceded him in death. Mr. Fortin served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a Chief Petty Officers 3rd Class. He moved to the Rutledge area in 1997 where he became a proud member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church. Mr. Fortin served as an altar server and belonged to Catholic Youth Organization while growing up. He was a member of Angel Flight from Peachtree Dekalb Airport, Past President of Golden Eagles Pilots Association at Covington Airport, a member of the American Legion at Post 37 in Madison, Georgia and was a fourth degree knight and member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Fortin met and starting dating his wife, Barbara Ann Fortin when she was 11 and he was 14. They were married for 55 years. Along with his wife he is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Lee Williams of Rincon, Georgia; granddaughter Savanah Williams and Travis Wages; brother, Robert Fortin of Demorest, Georgia; his nephews Chandler Fortin, and Nathan Fortin; his niece Pamela Fortin; along with numerous other family members and many close friends.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Fortin will be held at 11o’clock Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park following the service. The family will receive friends from at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the service.
