This obituary was lovingly prepared by the family
Sandra Hodges Lamonds, surrounded by loved ones, passed peacefully into eternal rest on August 12, 2025. She lived simply in her later years, spending time with her husband, Don, while they sat at the kitchen table watching the cows, birds, and the pond behind their house. She grew up on the property and was so proud of the yard that she spent countless hours cultivating.
Sandra was active and involved in many endeavors throughout her life. She grew up serving in multiple capacities in high school, running a daycare center in the early 1970s for working moms, serving on the PTO at East Newton Elementary School, where her children attended school, Newton County School Board for eight years, and then transitioning into a realtor and broker when her children started school.
She met her husband, Don Lamonds, when he was working on a construction project in Covington. After Don was drafted, they eloped. During the early years of marriage, Don was stationed in Seville, Spain, and they truly enjoyed their time there. Enjoying the culture of the country and making connections with others stationed there brought them immense pleasure.
After returning to the states, she and Don enjoyed many days on Lake Sinclair before they had children: Allyson, and twins, Barry and Alicia. In time, her three children gave her grandchildren, whom she adored: Michael, Molly, Matthew, Anna, Ally, and Jake. During this time, she enjoyed taking grandchildren on short trips near home when they were on school breaks. Sandra enjoyed exploring the world on trips with Don. They visited many states in America and branched out to the Caribbean and Europe. While they loved exploring new places, they also loved revisiting places from their first few years of marriage.
Sandra was predeceased by her parents: LD Hodges and Marion George Hodges and her toddler brother, Richard. Sandra is survived by her husband of almost 60 years. They were an amazing example of a lifelong love and were still holding hands up until her last day. She leaves behind her children: Allyson Richardson, Barry Lamonds, and Alicia Lamonds. Grandchildren: Michael (Natalie) Richardson, Molly (Hector) Uriarte, Matthew (Piper) Richardson, Anna (Rhett) Jenkins, Ally Jenkins, and Jake Jenkins. Great-grandchildren: Isabella Uriarte, Arianna Uriarte, Max Uriarte, Archer Richardson, Elliott Richardson, and Duke Richardson. Brothers Ronnie (Cindy) Hodges and Kenny (Melanie) Hodges.
A Funeral Service for Sandra will be at 12:00PM on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Sorrells officiating. Interment will be at Carmel Church Cemetery located in Mansfield, Georgia following the service. The family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00AM until 12:00PM at the funeral home prior to the service. Sandra loved receiving flowers, but often remarked that St. Jude was doing the Lord’s work, so either flowers or a donation to St. Jude’s would be appreciated.
