Shirley C. Massey

Mrs. Shirley C. Massey, age 90, of Conyers, Georgia, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025. Born on October 10, 1935, in Nicholson, Georgia, Shirley was the cherished daughter of Buford and Blanche Carithers, who preceded her in death.

Shirley grew up in the small town of Nicholson, where she learned the values of hard work and the joys of family life. At the age of 17, she bravely moved to Atlanta, embarking on a journey that would shape the rest of her life, and where she would meet her husband Nelson. Throughout the years, Shirley’s warmth and kindness touched all who knew her. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and caring for her family.

Above all, Shirley’s greatest love was for her family especially her grandchildren, whom she adored with all her heart. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a treasured grandmother, and a loyal friend.

Shirley is survived by her beloved husband, Nelson Massey; her children, Terry Massey (Shelly) and Rickey Massey (Becki); her grandchildren, Justin Massey, Hayden Massey, Maggie McMichael (Ryan), and Abby Massey; and her great-granddaughter, Mills McMichael. She is also survived by her sister, Wanda Humphery (Robert); along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many close friends who will deeply miss her presence.

Shirley’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community will continue to inspire all those whose lives she touched. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her unwavering spirit, and the lasting memories she created with those she loved most.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. A celebration of life will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend Howard Greer officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service.
