Mr. Stephen Bennett “Benny” Barber, age 90, of Georgia, passed away on April 6, 2026. Born on August 4, 1935, he was known throughout his life as a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. His calm presence, thoughtful nature, and unassuming manner left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Benny enjoyed a lifelong career as a commercial printer, where he dedicated many years of faithful service. His work ethic was strong, and he took pride in doing his job well. He was dependable, steady, and respected by those who worked alongside him.
Faith was an important part of Benny’s life, and he served as an Elder at Luther Hays Presbyterian Church. His commitment to his church family was a reflection of the devotion he showed in every area of his life.
Benny was also a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. He followed both teams with enthusiasm and enjoyed the traditions, excitement, and shared memories that came with being a loyal supporter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Worth and Maude Barber, and by his two brothers, WL Barber and Arthur Barber. Their memory remained an important part of his family story throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Connie M. Barber, had he lived to next week, a union that stood as one of the greatest blessings of his life. Their marriage was built on devotion, companionship, and enduring love, and it remained a source of strength through every season. He is also survived by his son, Chris Barber, and his wife, Wendy, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Anna Beth and Abby Kate. Benny held his family close to his heart, and he treasured the time he spent with them.
He adored his daughter-in-law, Wendy, and deeply appreciated the care and love she showed him. He especially enjoyed the meals she prepared for him, and it was said that if he was not hungry, he would still eat her food because he loved it so much. That simple detail reflected the warmth of his relationships and the joy he found in family life. Benny’s love for his family was steady and sincere, and he expressed it in quiet but meaningful ways.
Those who knew Benny will remember him as very low key, laid back, and quiet, yet full of presence and character. He did not seek attention, but his life spoke volumes. He was a man of integrity, faith, and devotion, and he leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by his family.
A graveside service for Mr. Barber will be held at 12 o’clock, Friday April 24, 2026, at Lawnwood Memorial Park. J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these services.
