Thomas John Bowen Sr., 58, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 in Stockbridge, GA. “Tom” was born in Atlanta, GA to Waymon and Marilyn Bowen.
Tom was a husband, a father, a son, an uncle, and a friend to all. He was a fiercely loyal protector to those he loved. He was selfless and a true family man. He always looked out for others, putting them first and making sure he could put smiles on their faces…which was usually the result of his favorite pastime, telling “dad jokes”.
Tom was a true Christian in every sense of the word. This was evident to everyone around him, by seeing how he acted on a daily basis. He was a peacemaker and a bridge builder, serving as a mediator between people and their disagreements. Tom always chose love.
He was a hard worker, who traveled the country following where his next construction job would take him. He was a college graduate from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and always cheered for his beloved Yellow Jackets.
Tom was class president of Heritage High School for all four years he attended. He was also captain and all-star center of the football team. He was assistant Scoutmaster of troop 203. He loved serving as a leader and mentor. He was a jokester, a story teller, a gentle giant, and never met a stranger. He loved the outdoors, the mountains, babies, and puppy dogs. He certainly wasn’t afraid of a beer or a good time. He was a cowboy at heart and he made everything fun.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Virginia Ann Bowen; parents Waymon “W.E” and Marilyn Bowen; brothers Scott and Bill Bowen; children Thomas and Gaelan Bowen, as well as his daughter in law, Jessica Bowen which he lovingly referred to as “his daughter”; and by his dogs Henry and Pixie.
A Celebration of Life for Tom will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service on Saturday.
