Mr. Van Cowart, age 69, of Covington passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021. He was born in Atlanta on June 12, 1952 to Horace and Constance Cowart who have preceded him in death. Mr. Cowart grew up in Atlanta and Decatur and was a 1970 graduate of Gordan High School. He worked as a draftsman and was a talented musician playing the 12-string guitar and writing songs. During his early years he was a radio announcer and still had a strong voice. Along with his parents Mr. Cowart was preceded in death by his grandson Conner. He is survived by his wife Digna Cowart; his children, Jennifer Palmer (Hayden) of Utah, Daniel Cowart of Utah, Jared Cowart (Tiffany) of Utah, Kimberly Cowart (Doug Bullock) of Newnan, Cara Cowart (Bobby Bray) of Utah, and David Cowart (Angela) of Germany; his step children, Camila Mae Packner (Robert) of Covington, Nathan San Felipe (Melanie) of Covington, and Amiel San Felipe of Covington. His 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, his brother Matt Cowart of Atlanta, his sister Laura Philpott (David) of Conyers along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of close friends also survive him.
Funeral services for Mr. Cowart will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday, October 30, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 10235 Eagle Drive, Covington, GA 30014 with Bishop Joshua Kirkham officiating. The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, October 29, 2021. J.C.
