Verdell Shope Jordan

Mrs. Verdell Shope Jordan, age 92, of Newborn, Georgia passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020.  She was born June 9, 1928 to Arcth and Maud Shope who have preceded her in death.  Mrs. Jordan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  She loved her family dearly and was “the best mother in the world.” Mrs. Jordan adored her fur babies Lily, Bell, and especially her beautiful Rosie.  She was a member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church.  Mrs. Jordan enjoyed watching hummingbirds from her porch, flowers with Roses being her favorite, pinto beans, and corn bread with milk.  She was truly a kind soul and was loved by many.  She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Jordan, her daughters Shirley Dowdy and Evelyn Bennett, nine other siblings, and the father of her ten children, O.C. Dowdy.

Mrs. Jordan is survived by her children, Marie Blount (Freddie), Larry Dowdy (Mary), Linda Denny (James), Tony Dowdy (Brenda), Shelba Bullard (Puddy), Dale Hilliard (Pete), Troy Dowdy (Nita), Vicky Lester (Mike), Ronnie Dowdy (Holly), 27 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren, and her brother Fred Shope, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family and close friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Jordan will be held at 11 o’clock, Tuesday, July14, 2020 at Way of the Cross Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Coleman officiating, located at 646 Sigman Rd. NW, Conyers, Ga 30012.  Interment will follow at Way of the Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Monday, July 13, 2020 at the church.
