Virginia P. (Phillips) Johnson

Mrs. Virginia P. Johnson, age 96, of Covington passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023.  She was born in Atlanta on September 6, 1926 to Luther B. and Azalee Collum Phillips who have preceded her in death.  Mrs. Johnson grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Grady High School.  She worked for Johnson Freight Line where she met and married Mr. Thomas Johnson.  Mrs. Johnson started her career with the State of Georgia in 1975, she worked for GCIC and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations for over 30 years.  She was an avid reader, and enjoyed crocheting, she crocheted hats and blankets for children’s hospital for many years.  Mrs. Johnson was a member of Glen Haven Baptist Church in Atlanta before moving her membership to High Point Baptist Church in 1959.  She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Johnson; her children LaFayette Daily, Carl Alex Johnson, and Cheryl Ann Myers; and her granddaughters Tara Adair, and Tiffany Nelson.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children Philip Johnson (Rita) of Covington, Deborah Payton (Ron) of Loganville, Crystal Dooley of Covington, and Glen Johnson of Monticello; she is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, and a host of other family and close friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 3 o’clock Sunday, January 15, 2023 at High Point Baptist Church with Reverend David Marshall officiating.  Interment will follow at High Point Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.  In lieu flowers the family request that donations be made to High Point Baptist Church, 12025 Hwy 36, Covington, GA 30014.  J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
