Virginia Lewis Ashbaugh Obituary

We lovingly remember Mrs. Virginia Ellen Lewis Ashbaugh, affectionately known as Ellen, who graced this world with her presence on July 31, 1944, in Newnan, and embarked on her eternal journey on May 2, 2025, in Monroe. Ellen was the heartwarming embodiment of love, adventure, and kindness throughout her radiant life.

Ellen's early years were shaped by her warm family life as the daughter of John and Virginia Lewis, both of whom predeceased her, along with her son John Michael O'Neal, and her husband’s Wayne O'Neal, Sr., and Larry Ashbaugh. Her legacy of love continues through her surviving family, including her son Wayne O'Neal (married to Cindy), her cherished daughter Jennifer Mangum (wed to Doug), her adored nine grandchildren including her grandsons Jacob and Joshua who spent countless hours caring for and loving their grandmother, several great-grandchildren, her caring brother Michael Lewis, and her sister, Carol Christenson. Her life was further enriched by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and close friends who all felt the warmth of her gentle spirit.

The bright arc of Ellen's life was shaped by her education at Forest Park High School, followed by her employment as a crossing guard and her work in the banking industry. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she operated Vela's Booth in Locust Grove. Alongside her husband, she traveled across the country, her adventurous soul finding joy in the journeys they shared as he drove over the road trucks.

Ellen's vibrant spirit was ever-evident in her personal pursuits. She was drawn to the excitement of casinos and the intrigue of estate sales, each adventure a reflection of her zest for life and openness to new experiences.

Throughout her years, Ellen Ashbaugh will be remembered as a beacon of loving kindness and free-spirited adventure—a truly beautiful soul who lived life to its fullest with open arms and a glowing heart. Her passing leaves a legacy of joy and love that continues to resonate in the lives she touched.
