Wendell Crowe Obituary

This service will be live streamed. Please see link below.

Wendell Bickmore Crowe, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on January 31st, 2026. The son of the late Wendell and Thankful Crowe, he was a lifetime resident of Newton County.

At a very early age, his Dad instilled in him three passions that would define much of his life: fishing, hunting, and traveling. As a boy, his Dad would drive him and his bird dog miles outside of Covington, only to drop them off on the railroad tracks. They would then spend the day hunting all the way back to town, just boy and dog. Summers would find him fishing the flats of Steinhatchee, and later deep-sea fishing off the coast of Mexico.

At Newton County High School, he was a dedicated student and exceptional athlete, whose passion was football. He hoped to play college ball, like his Dad, but a serious leg injury his senior year silenced the telephones. It would have to be questioned whether he would have played another snap, anyway, because he had already met the one true love of a lifetime. She was the pride of Porterdale, Miss Connie Bledsoe.

The next two years included graduation from Oxford College, leaving school to work for the family business, and marrying the women he would be in love with for 66 more years, never hesitating to worship and honor her whenever possible.

While some relationships erode with time, theirs only endured and strengthened to the point one would truly believe that each knew the other’s thoughts. Inseparable, no two people could love one another anymore, a love for the ages.

Wendell lived his entire life in Newton County, raised his family in Newton County, and owned and operated Covington Ford. And while he supported many organizations, he took most pride in helping the young people of the county. He always felt that the youth were the soul of the county, and rarely, if ever, could say no to their needs. In 2021, he was recognized for his years of support in the community with the R.O. Arnold Award, one of his most proud achievements.

Wendell is survived by his loving wife, Connie Crowe, children: Wendy Crowe, Matt & Debbie Crowe, and Wes & Andrea Crowe. Grandchildren he adored: Zach Kenny, Connelly Crowe, McKenzie Crowe, Brelan & Brittany Crowe, Aubrey Crowe, Hutch Crowe, Tyler & Jordyn Ladigo, and Brett & Bailey Gealy. Along with three great grandchildren with one on the way.

Honorable pall bearers include: Marty McClure, John Wigton, Chad Mobley, Kenneth Davis, Derrell Carnes, Don Briscoe, Grayson Shepard, and Danny Itzkovitz.
