Celebrating the Life of William Jackson “Jack” Shellhouse
William Jackson “Jack” Shellhouse, age 91, beloved husband of Christine Shellhouse of Oxford, Georgia, formerly of Lithonia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. Born March 8, 1934 in Thomasville, Georgia, Jack was full of compassion, humor, curiosity, and a heart big enough to hold everyone he loved. He is now reunited with his parents, William Jackson Sr. and Bessie Shellhouse, who surely welcomed him home with open arms.
Jack grew up in Mitchell County, Georgia and attended Sale City High School. He served his country in the United States Army, training at Fort Jackson before moving to Detroit where he worked on the Ajax Missile Defense System.
After his military years, Jack built a life around hard work and service. For 28 years, he owned and operated Shellhouse Steel Erectors — a business that reflected his strength, grit, and determination. But more than that, Jack was the kind of man who showed up and worked hard for the people he loved.
Jack loved deeply. He filled every room with jokes, laughter, and a spark that made life feel lighter. He was happiest when surrounded by family, hunting, fishing, traveling, and watching the Georgia Bulldogs. Together, he and his beloved wife Christine explored America, building 68 years of memories, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Their marriage is a legacy of devotion and love that will carry on for generations.
Jack lived his faith as a longtime member of Lithonia First United Methodist Church. He also served as a Master Mason and Worshipful Master of Lithonia Lodge #84.
Jack leaves behind many who will miss him dearly: his loving wife Christine; his daughters Susan Evans, Stephanie Phelps (David), and Shannon Slate (Chuck); 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; his sister Elaine Wright; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were blessed by the love he gave so freely.
His legacy is one of family, laughter, kindness, and a heart that never stopped expanding.
A memorial service honoring Jack will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home with Pastor David Payne officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM.
Jack’s family invites you to come as he lived, with joy, big smiles, and the stories that will keep his humor and spirit alive forever.
