Ret. Capt. Herbert Harris Carson, age 82, of Suwanee, formerly of Newborn passed away April 24, 2024. He was born June 26, 1941 in Newborn to Herbert and Dorothy Carson who have preceded him in death. Mr. Carson served proudly in the United States Army where he was a Military Police Officer and K-9 handler. He continued his law enforcement at the City of Atlanta Police Department where his career spanned 31 years retiring as a Captain. Mr. Carson was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He was a man of faith and a longtime member of Newborn Methodist Church. Mr. Carson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Cabral Carson.
Captain Carson is survived by his wife Judy Carson; his children Angela Donaldson (Mark) of Mandeville, LA, Chris Carson (Susan) of Brunswick, GA, and Tim Carson (DeLancey) of Alpharetta, GA.; his grandchildren Erin, Emma, Harris, Cooper, Caleb, Libby, Kennedy; his sister and brother-in-law Dianne Panter (Lee) of Conyers. His sister-in-law Anne Raynor of Suwanee along with her daughter Jenny, and her granddaughter Madison who provided invaluable support in his later years. Numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many close friends also survive him.
A Memorial Service for Captain Carson will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Newborn Methodist Church with Pastor Todd Hilton and Reverend Frank Bernat officiating. Inurnment will follow at Newborn Historical Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Disciples of Christ Food Ministry at Newborn Methodist Church, 118 Church Street, Newborn, GA 30056.
